Description
DESCRIPTION
Educational dental video on the complications of partial and late eruption of wisdom teeth. The wrong orientation and position of the wisdom tooth involves an inflammation of the surrounding mucosa (pericoronitis). This phenomenon get worse by the masticatory trauma of the upper molar on the lower inflamed mucosa. Removal of the lower wisdom tooth implies an improvement in the mandibular soft tissues. But since the antagonist is missing, the upper wisdon tooth tends to over-erupt until again producing a masticatory trauma on the mandibular mucosa.
In a second part of the video you can see how an incorrect eruption of the lower wisdom tooth can damage the crown or the root of the second lower molar and eventually lead to tooth loss. The third and last part of the video presents the surgery to extract a lower wisdom tooth by raising a flap, osteotomy and dental section.
